As Sharon Hurley Hall eloquently stated, “The issues may be different, but is it not time we opened up this discussion in the Caribbean?” While the manifestation of these issues may differ in the Caribbean context, racial bias continues to play a significant role in maintaining the status quo and perpetuating inequity.
What We’ll Explore
This workshop will create a safe space to discuss how these issues often manifest in the Caribbean through:
- Colorism
- Classism
- Power dynamics
- Wealth distribution
- Privilege
These critical topics are frequently left undiscussed. The Six Stages Framework promotes meaningful dialogue about racial bias and its origins while also exploring a broader range of topics including:
- Gender
- Sexual orientation
- Disability
- And more
Why Attend?
A key premise of the Six Stages Framework is that we all have biases. The first step toward positive change is identifying what these biases are and then exploring how we can challenge them.
This workshop offers:
- Facilitated discussions with Dr. Shungu Hilda M’gadzah
- Networking with like-minded individuals
- Engaging debates on important social issues
- A chance to enjoy local Bajan delicacies
Questions to Consider
- Does racial bias exist in the Caribbean (or in Africa)?
- Are we viewing these issues solely through the lens of a white-black binary?
- How can we better understand the unique expressions of bias in Caribbean society?
